No. 4 Gamecocks Make Match Play for Fifth Consecutive Season

Carolina has not missed the top-eight cutline since the league switched to the new format for the SEC Championship in 2018

HOOVER, Ala. – No. 4 South Carolina punched its ticket to match play for the fifth consecutive time on Friday at the SEC Championship. The Gamecocks shot a final round 299 (+11) to finish T-7th in stroke play.

Carolina will face No.7 Auburn, the No. 2 seed from stroke play, in what will be a top-10 match up in the SEC Quarterfinals on Saturday morning. The Gamecocks and Tigers have not faced in match play this season but Auburn holds a 3-2 advantage after today in head-to-head stroke play this season.

A trio of players shot 74 (+2) to lead Carolina in the final round of stroke play today at Greystone Golf & Country Club. Freshman Mia Sandtorv was one of those three and led the way with her first career top-10 finish as she T-10th at 3-over for the tournament. She had a stretch of three-straight birdies today on the front nine on holes seven through nine.

Sophomore All-American Louise Rydqvist also shot 74 (+2) and finished T-22nd at 8-over for the tournament. Senior Mathilde Claisse was the third Gamecock to shoot 74 (+2) today. She closed her round on a high note with a birdie on hole 18. Sophomore All-American Hannah Darling was the final counting score with a 77 (+5). Senior Justine Fournand also shot 77 (+5).

No. 3 LSU earned the top seed for match play after a field-best 284 (-4) today. They were the only team to post a red number all week. Mississippi State’s Julia Lopez Ramirez took home medalist honors by a shot over Auburn’s Megan Schofill. Lopez Ramirez shot 68 (-4) today and posted a 54-hole total of 212 (-4).

Live scoring for tomorrow’s quarterfinal matches is available via Golfstat. Fournand will be off first for the Gamecocks at 8:50 a.m. (ET). Darling will be in the anchor match at 9:30 a.m.
