COLUMBIA – The University of South Carolina baseball team went 2-2 on the week, defeating USC Upstate, 7-2, before taking 1-of-3 games at Vanderbilt on the weekend.

NOTES:
Ethan Petry had three home runs on the weekend, upping his season total to 18 and setting the new mark for home runs as a freshman at Carolina. Petry passed Justin Smoak, who had 17 in 2006. Petry also has 56 RBI after three more on Sunday in the 6-4 loss to Vanderbilt.
The Gamecocks had five home runs in Thursday’s 14-6 win over Vanderbilt, with two coming off the bat of Cole Messina. Carolina goes into this week with 86 home runs as a team, which currently leads the nation.
Carolina is second in the league with a 3.23 ERA after 36 games. Chris Veach has a 1.72 ERA in 15.2 innings pitched. The Gamecocks also have 363 strikeouts in 312 innings pitched.
Braylen Wimmer belted his 10th home run in Saturday’s game at Vanderbilt. The Gamecocks now have five players with at least 10 home runs on the season in Ethan Petry, Gavin Casas, Cole Messina, Wimmer and Will McGillis.
Carolina comes in at No. 2 in the latest RPI rankings as of April 16. The Gamecocks are 13-5 against Quad 1 team and 20-1 at home this season.
