Equestrian Receives Three Awards at Annual Gamecock Gala

COLUMBIA, SC – South Carolina Athletics held its annual Gamecock Gala on Monday, April 17, at the Colonial Life Arena. The event honored the University’s top student-athletes for their accomplishments during the 2022-23 academic year. Two members of the South Carolina Equestrian team received honors, in addition to the team earning the Team Impact Award.

Trinity Hammerschmidt – SEC H. Boyd McWhorter Scholarship

Each year, the SEC awards the H. Boyd McWhorter Scholarship to a top senior male and female student-athlete from one of its member institutions. Each institution’s nominees are seniors with exceptional athletic, academic and community service accomplishments and are recipients of a $10,000 post-graduate scholarship from the Southeastern Conference.

Hammerschmidt earned her undergraduate degree and is currently working on her Master’s in Sport & Entertainment Management. The fifth-year senior posted an undergrad GPA of 3.672 and owns a 3.333 GPA in her Master’s program. She has been a member of the NCEA, SEC and AD Honor Rolls, and has been active in the community, volunteering with several organizations, including Families Helping Families, Gamecock Pantry donations, and Meals on Wheels, and has been a two-time NCEA All-American and three-time All-SEC performer. She is ranked in the Gamecocks’ top-10 in 10 different categories.

Jordan Allen – SEC Brad E. Davis Outstanding Community Service Scholarship

The Brad E. Davis Outstanding Community Service Scholarship award is presented to a senior male and female student-athlete with exceptional community service accomplishments during their careers and are recipients of a $7,500 post-graduate scholarship from the Southeastern Conference.

Allen holds a 3.535 GPA as a public health major, and has been a key contributor to her team’s success over the last four seasons, earning All-SEC and All-America honors. Her dedication to and enthusiasm for her team elevated her to team captain status. Whether it’s her head coach, her teammates or our student-athlete development staff calling, Allen is always ready with a servant’s heart. She has been involved in a variety of community service events, most notably logging over 100 hours as a volunteer with Meals on Wheels. She has also worked with Families Helping Families, the Columbia Humane Society and Richland Elementary School among others, and has been part of SAAC for three years.

Team Impact Award – Equestrian

The Equestrian team posted a 3.606 team GPA in the Fall of 2022. 39 student-athletes make the AD honor roll with nine on the President’s List. The team accumulated 561 community service hours, an average of nearly 15 hours per student. Among the team’s notable projects were the Families Helping Families Christmas event; donating school supplies to elementary schools and donating to the Gamecock Pantry; volunteering at the Artist for Africa event; participating in the Sandstorm Buddies Children’s Hospital visits, and in the Athletes in the Generation Gamecock Mentoring program. The team also defeated three top-10 teams and had two student-athletes selected as SEC Riders of the Month
