COLUMBIA – The University of South Carolina baseball team went 1-2 on the week, dropping a series to Auburn but winning Sunday’s game.

NOTES:
Will Tippett had the big hit in the 8-7 win over Auburn on Sunday afternoon, as his three-run home run in the seventh gave the Gamecocks the 8-6 lead. It was Tippett’s first career home run and the freshman now has seven RBI on the year. He also is the 14th different Gamecock to hit a home run in 2023.
Caleb Denny was 7-for-9 in the Auburn series with a pair of doubles, raising his average to .252 on the year with 14 extra-base hits and 33 RBI.
Cole Messina now has 53 RBI, 14 doubles and 14 home runs after his 6-for-12 weekend. Messina had a pair of doubles and a home run against the Tigers.
The win on Sunday’s was Carolina’s 500th win all-time in SEC play. Carolina has a 500-396-1 record in the SEC after the weekend.
Carolina is at No. 2 in the RPI after Sunday’s game. It’s the top RPI in the SEC and one of five SEC teams in the top-six.
