Gamecocks Third at NCAA Athens Regional

ATHENS, Ga. – No. 4 South Carolina is in solid position after 18 holes of the NCAA Athens Regional on Monday. The Gamecocks sit third after a 1-over team score of 289.

Sophomore All-Americans Louise Rydqvist and Hannah Darling paced the team today posting red numbers on UGA Golf Course. Rydqvist shot 70 (-2) with four birdies and Darling shot 71 (-1) with five birdies on her scorecard. They sit T-4^th and T-9^th respectively on the leaderboard.

Senior Justine Fournand shot 73 (+1) with four red numbers on her score card. She made three straight birdies in holes four through seven on the front nine. Senior Mathilde Claisse was the final counting score with a 75 (+3). After a tough 4-over front nine, Claisse rallied with a 1-under 36 on the back. She finished strong with a birdie at the par-5 18^th hole. Freshman Mia Sandtorv Lussand shot 76 (+4).

Host Georgia was the only team under par on its home golf course in the opening round. The Bulldogs shot 279 (-9). Furman’s Anna Morgan has the individual lead at 4-under thanks to a first round 68. She made four birdies and an eagle at the par-5 12^th hole.

There was a 1 hour weather delay this morning due to heavy rain and lighting. The forecast looks good for the next two days with warm temps and clear skies.

Carolina will be paired with Georgia and No. 23 Ohio State for the second round on Tuesday. Sandtorv Lussand will be the first player off for the Gamecocks at 9:09 a.m. (ET). Live scoring will be available via Golfstat again.
