COLUMBIA – The University of South Carolina baseball team went 1-3 on the week, falling to Charlotte on Tuesday night and winning 1-of-3 games at No. 18 Tennessee this past weekend.

NOTES:
Jack Mahoney has now had back-to-back outstanding starts on the mound for the Gamecocks as he earned the win over Tennessee on Saturday afternoon. Mahoney struck out nine, tying a career high, and allowed just three hits and a run with no walks in the 6-1 win. Mahoney is 6-2 with a 3.73 ERA and 72 strikeouts in 70 innings pitched this season.

Carolina scored five runs in the sixth inning in the Saturday win. The big hit was a two-run double by Talmadge LeCroy. Ethan Petry, Gavin Casas and Michael Braswell all had run-scoring hits in the inning.

On Friday, Cole Messina and Ethan Petry were named semifinalists for the Dick Howser Trophy. Petry ended the regular season hitting .379 with 48 runs scored, nine doubles, 21 home runs and 69 RBI. Messina is hitting .317 with 56 runs scored, 17 doubles, 17 home runs and 62 RBI.

Carolina enters the SEC Tournament as the sixth seed and will face No. 11 Georgia in the first game of the tournament. The winner of the Carolina-Georgia game will face No. 3 LSU on Wednesday morning.
