Baseball's Petry Invited to USA Baseball CNT Training Camp
CARY – University of South Carolina freshman outfielder Ethan Petry has been invited to the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team Training Camp, the organization announced today (Friday, June 9).
Petry, who was named a Collegiate Baseball All-American last week, heads into the Gainesville Super Regional with a .374 batting average with nine doubles, 23 home runs and 75 RBI. The Land O’Lakes, Fla., native has scored 55 runs and has a .738 slugging percentage. In the Columbia Regional, Petry was 4-for-12 with five runs scored, a home run and three RBI on his way to being named to the All-Columbia Regional team.
This season, Petry was a four-time SEC Freshman of the Week, a two-time Collegiate Baseball National Player of the Week and an SEC Player of the Week. He joined Cole Messina on the All-SEC first team.
The USA Baseball Collegiate National Team Training Camp will feature 56 of the premier non-draft eligible college players for a four-game Stars vs. Stripes intrasquad series in North Carolina from June 25-28. USA Baseball will name a final, 26-man Collegiate National Team roster after Training Camp that will represent the United States in friendship series against Chinese Taipei and Japan from June 30-July 12.
All four Training Camp games will be played at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, North Carolina. The series begins on June 25 at 3 p.m. ET, with three games following over the next three days. Game two will be on June 26 at 6 p.m. ET, game three on June 27 at 7 p.m. ET, and game four on June 28 at 6 p.m. ET.
Petry and the Gamecocks will face Florida in the Gainesville Super Regional starting Friday night (June 9) at 6 p.m. at Condron Family Ballpark in Gainesville, Fla. The game will be televised on ESPN2.
