Gamecocks in the Show Update - June 22

The Major League Baseball’s 2023 season is in full swing and seven Gamecock alumni are currently on MLB rosters. Here’s a recap of how the former Gamecocks are doing in the “Show.”

  • Jonah Bride (Oakland Athletics) – Bride is in his second season with the Athletics and has played in 18 games with a double, four RBI, six walks and five runs scored. Bride made his season debut with the A’s on May 29 and was 2-for-3 with a run scored against Atlanta.
  • Wil Crowe (Pittsburgh Pirates) – Crowe currently is on the 60-day IL but made five appearances for the Pirates, striking out nine in 9.2 innings pitched. Crowe picked up a save in a win over the Chicago White Sox on April 7, striking out four in three innings of work.
  • Whit Merrifield (Toronto Blue Jays) – Merrifield is hitting .298 with 30 runs scored, 15 doubles, two home runs and 29 RBI for the Blue Jays this season. He was 3-for-4 with an RBI at Baltimore on June 14. He has played at second base, left field and right field this season in Toronto, helping the Blue Jays to six games over .500.
  • Carmen Mlodzinski (Pittsburgh Pirates) – Mlodzinski made his Major League debut on June 16 with the Pirates and struck out a pair in 1.1 innings of work in Milwaukee. Mlodzinski had made three appearances for the Pirates and has three strikeouts in 3.2 innings.
  • Jordan Montgomery (St. Louis Cardinals) – Montgomery has a 3.69 ERA and four wins with 79 strikeouts in 85.1 innings pitched for the Cardinals this season. He earned the win in his most recent outing at Washington on June 20, striking out six in seven innings of work. He had seven strikeouts against San Francisco on June 14.
  • Clarke Schmidt (New York Yankees) – Schmidt has made 15 starts for the Yankees in 2023, striking out 73 batters in 71.2 innings pitched. He has two wins and a 4.65 ERA. He earned a win over Cincinnati on May 19, striking out six in five innings of work.
  • Christian Walker (Arizona Diamondbacks) – Walker has played in 71 games for the Diamondbacks this season, hitting .271 with 41 runs scored, 20 doubles, 15 home runs and 49 RBI for first-place Arizona. He was 2-for-5 with a double, a home run and three RBI against Cleveland on June 18.
