Gamecock Cross Country Reveals 2023 Slate
COLUMBIA, S.C. (August 9, 2023) – South Carolina has officially announced the 2023 Cross Country slate on Wednesday, highlighted by a pair of meets in Columbia.
“The 2023 cross country schedule provides an excellent opportunity for the Gamecocks to compete on some of the best courses in the region, including the Charwood Golf Club which will host this year’s SEC Championship,” stated Head Coach Tim Hall. “I couldn’t be more excited to see our women in action this season under Brock Moreaux’s mentorship.”
The Gamecocks will look to compete in eight meets during the season, culminated with the NCAA Championships in Charlottesville, Va. on Saturday, Nov. 18. South Carolina will host a pair of meets this season, the Gamecock Challenge on Friday, Sept. 15 and then the 2023 SEC Championship on Friday, Oct. 27, both will take place at Charwood Golf Club in West Columbia.
“I am really excited about the schedule that we have put together to put our student-athletes in the best position possible for championship season,” added Distance Coach Brock Moreaux. “We will get the chance to preview our regional course at the Eye Opener, and then home for the Gamecock Challenge to preview our SEC Championship course. We will also get the chance to get into a couple really competitive races this season at Paul Short and Pre-Nationals, exposing our group to the best of the best and to see if we can move up in the regional rankings.”
Five of the Gamecocks’ eight meets will take place in the Carolinas this season, beginning with the Eye Opener hosted by USC Upstate on Friday, Sept. 1 to kick the season off in Spartanburg, S.C. Following the meet in the Upstate, Carolina will host its lone regular season meet at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 15. Two weeks later, the Gamecocks will make their longest trek of the season to compete in the Paul Short Run hosted by Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa. The meet will run on Saturday, Sept. 30 at 11:45 a.m.
South Carolina will compete in a trio of meets during the month of October, starting with the Royals Challenge in Charlotte, N.C. on Friday, Oct. 6. Then the Gamecocks will head to Charlottesville, Va. on Saturday, Oct. 14 to take part in the XC-23 Pre-Nationals meet hosted by Virginia. The 2023 SEC Championship will cap off the action in October, taking place on Friday, Oct. 27.
The final two meets of the season will take place in November, with the Southeast Regional kicking the month off on Friday, Nov. 10 in Spartanburg, S.C. Following the regional, the Gamecocks will look to make a run at the NCAA Championship in familiar territory, competing in Charlottesville, Va. for the second time in the season. The NCAA Championship meet will take place on Saturday, Nov. 18.
