Biran Completes Upset in First Solo Win

Greenville, S.C. – South Carolina women’s tennis completed the second day of action at the Furman Fall Classic on Saturday with three more singles wins to add to its season total. Graduate Shahar Biran had the most notable win of the day, earning her first singles victory as a Gamecock.

No. 106 Biran toppled No. 44 Casie Wooten in a gritty three-set comeback win after dropping the first set in a tiebreaker. Biran came back with force in the second set, claiming it 6-2 and perfectly timed a break to close out the final set 7-5.

Junior Misa Malkin tallied her first singles win of the season in a dominant 6-1, 6-1 result over Georgia Tech’s Given Roach.

South Carolina’s third singles win of the day came from fellow junior Olympe Lancelot who also put up a strong showing in her match. Lancelot took down Jingyi Stella Li of Wake Forest 6-1, 6-2 and will play in the Flight 9 title match on Sunday.

In the day’s doubles matches, both of South Carolina’s pairs fell to teams from Duke and Tennessee respectively.

The Fall Classic will conclude on Sunday with one round of singles beginning at 9 a.m.
