Cardiac Cat: Senior Finds Game Winner Over Auburn in Final 5 Minutes of Play
AUBURN, AL – The No. 15 Gamecock Women’s Soccer team (8-1-3, 2-0-2) had a comeback thriller against Auburn (5-4-3, 1-2-1) Friday night, finishing with a 2-1 win after scoring both goals in the final 10 minutes to pick up their first SEC road win of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first half saw offensive strides from both teams on the field, with the Gamecocks putting up three shots (one on goal) in the first 45 minutes. The Tigers came ouxt on top in that stat for the first half however, doubling South Carolina with six. Fifth-year keeper Heather Hinz had two big saves heading into the locker room
- The second half saw a corner by the Gamecocks just three minutes in, followed by another less than five minutes later. South Carolina got a shot off following the first, but was unable to find the back of the net
- With only 10 minutes left in the game, Auburn made things 1-0 after Sydnie Thibodaux capitalized on her position inside the 18, sneaking it past Hinz to the bottom right corner of the net
- The Gamecocks stayed in the fight, taking a corner a minute later with Catherine Barry taking a shot but being met by a save from Tiger keeper Maddie Prohaska
- In the 84th minute, rookie Reagan Schubach nabbed the equalizer for South Carolina off a shot from right inside the 18. The goal was the fifth of the season for the freshman
