Women’s Tennis Advances Three Singles Entries at Regional Championships

Chapel Hill, N.C. – South Carolina women’s tennis completed its second day of action at the Carolina Regional Championships on Friday. The Gamecocks started the day with three singles wins and had both of their doubles pairs advance to the quarterfinals.

To start the day, both juniors Misa Malkin and Olympe Lancelot claimed singles wins in the A1 draw. Lancelot was able to complete her match first with an efficient 6-2, 6-1 takedown of Gardner-Webb’s Alizee Poulin.

Malkin’s match was more gritty with three sets needed for the decision. The Gamecock faced Wake Forest’s Brooke Killingsworth where she claimed the first set 6-4, before dropping the second set 2-6. Malkin refused to back down and shut Killingsworth out in the final set 6-0 to claim the victory.

In the A2 draw, No. 106 Shahar Biran made quick work of Furman’s Maeve Thornton, taking the Paladin down 6-2, 6-0. Fellow graduate Elise Mills suffered South Carolina’s only singles loss of the day, falling to North Carolina’s Theadora Rabman.

In the second round of doubles action, Malkin and Lancelot advanced to the quarterfinals with a strong 8-3 victory over Eastern Carolina’s Ines Bachir Bouhali and Alisha Hussain. The Gamecock pair then fell to the nation’s No. 2 ranked pair of Elizabeth Scotty and Reese Brantmeier of North Carolina.

In the A2 doubles draw, Biran and Mills defeated Charlotte’s Ruzandra Schech and Sara Suchankova 8-6 to advance to the quarterfinals where they fell to Gabriella Broadfoot and Abigail Rencheli of North Carolina State 5-8.
