Women’s Tennis Prepared for Home Tournament

Columbia, S.C. – South Carolina women’s tennis will make its lone home appearance of the fall this weekend for the Gamecock Shootout. The Carolina Tennis Center will welcome players from Charlotte, Marshall, Virginia Tech, and SMU for a weekend of round robin action.

Each team will see three singles and three doubles sessions with play beginning at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, and 9:00 a.m. on Sunday.

The Gamecocks will begin action on Friday at 12:30 p.m. with one round of doubles followed by one round of singles. The team will then have one round each of singles and doubles on Saturday starting at 10:00 a.m. and will conclude the tournament with their final round of doubles and singles on Sunday beginning at 11:00 a.m.

South Carolina will be represented in the tournament by Elise Mills, Misa Malkin, Olympe Lancelot, and Anna Kantor. Mills is coming off of a strong performance at the ITA Carolina Regional Championships where she fell in the first round but went on a run through to back draw to claim the consolation title.

Malkin looks to improve on her 5-5 record this fall. She’s coming off of an appearance in the A1 draw quarterfinals at the Regional Championships.

Lancelot still has a lot to prove for her first semester in the Garnet & Black. Through appearances at two tournaments, the junior transfer has tallied a 3-2 singles record and a 4-2 doubles record.

The Gamecock Shootout will be the second career appearance for Kantor who suffered an injury during her debut tournament and has been out ever since.

Admission to the tournament is free and open to the public. Gates will open 30 minutes prior to the first match of the day. Spectator parking on Friday will be available on the streets surrounding the athletic village. Compliance with all City of Columbia parking signage is encouraged.

Saturday and Sunday parking will be available in the grass lot behind the women’s side courts. The entrance to the lot is off Heyward Street. Outside food and drink (excluding alcoholic beverages) are permitted.

Those not in attendance are encouraged to keep up with matches via Track Tennis live streaming or view final scores on the tournament webpage.
