Gamecock Creative Media Team Restructuring to Expand Impact

The University of South Carolina’s Athletics Creative Media Department is restructuring in an effort to increase their impact, announced Athletics Director Ray Tanner.

Justin King, who has led the Gamecocks’ creative efforts since February 2017, will now be Senior Associate Athletics Director for Football Creative and Branding. He will oversee all creative messaging for the football program and take an enhanced role with in-venue content and gameday experience inside of Williams-Brice Stadium.

“Justin’s leadership, creativity and brand development expertise has helped build a platform for Gamecock Athletics that is unmatched across the country,” said Tanner. “We have a blueprint now, and it’s time for him to focus his efforts solely on helping Coach Beamer to continue to elevate our football program and working with our talented Marketing and Live Productions staff to create the best atmosphere in all of college football.”

The catalyst for this change comes from a desire to not only increase the resources for football, but all sports across the athletics department.

Eichel Davis will join the Gamecock Athletics Staff as Associate Athletics Director for Creative Media and oversee a crew that will handle creative for all sports except football. Davis comes to South Carolina from the University of Cincinnati, where he was Assistant AD for Creative Videography since July 2021.

“I’ve known Eichel and his work for years. When we set out to find the best person to come in and help lead the direction of our creative efforts, there was nobody better,” said King. “He’s not only a talented, passionate, and experienced creative, he’s a respected leader in this industry. On top of that, South Carolina is somewhere he’s wanted to be for many years. He understands this place and how special it is.”

Reporting to Davis will be Sam Straker as Creative Producer for Men’s Basketball, Jhalen Wingate as creative producer for Women’s Basketball, Daniel Carter as Olympic Sport Producer, and Jacob Reeves as Creative Designer, as well as a Senior Producer.

King will continue to oversee Ethan Styll as Senior Producer for Football Creative, Alex Marinelli as Producer for Football Creative, Zach Frehse as Director of Football Graphic Design, and Jayson Jeffers as Football Graphic Designer, as well as a Producer.

“The success we’ve had here has been because of our culture and ability to scale up depending on the scope of a project,” King said. “That will never change – this team is, and always will be, a family. Eichel is the perfect person to come in and help take everything we are doing to another level that will benefit every sport at the University of South Carolina.”

Davis begins his role at Carolina on Dec. 18.
