Goffi Releases Spring Schedule
Columbia, S.C. – South Carolina men’s tennis head coach Josh Goffi announced his team’s Spring 2024 schedule on Tuesday. The slate is comprised of 20 regular season dual matches and includes hosting the ITA Kickoff Weekend for the third consecutive year.
“We’re really looking forward to the challenging schedule that we put together for the 2024 season,” said Goffi. “We have a veteran team with some young up-and-comers that’ll be challenged by some of the best teams in the country. The goal of the schedule is to be prepared for May and this slate provides every opportunity to accomplish that.”
The Gamecocks will begin their season first thing in the new year with a tournament scheduled for the first weekend of January. They will host Georgia, Illinois, and VCU for a weekend of round-robin action from Jan. 5-7.
After a weekend off, the team will jump straight into a rigorous non-conference schedule, heading to the home of the reigning back-to-back national champion Virginia Cavalier’s place for their first dual of the season. The match will take place on Jan. 21 in Charlottesville at the Boars Head Resort.
The following weekend, South Carolina will return home to host their third consecutive ITA Kickoff Weekend. In their first-round match, the Gamecocks will face rival Clemson on Jan. 27, and will take on either LSU or Louisville in their second match on Jan. 28. The winner of the weekend will advance to the ITA National Team Indoor Championships that will take place in New York City.
The Gamecocks will then welcome NC State on Feb. 2 and Wake Forest on Feb. 8 before heading back on the road to face Ohio State on Feb. 11. The ITA Indoor Championships will take place Feb. 16-19 and the team will round out the non-conference schedule with a doubleheader against the Citadel on Feb. 28.
SEC action will begin at home for South Carolina this year with LSU and Texas A&M traveling to Columbia for opening weekend on March 1 and 3. The Gamecocks will then hit the road for two weeks, making stops at Arkansas (March 10), Alabama (March 15), and Auburn (March 17).
The team will then return home to host Mississippi State on March 22 and Ole Miss on March 24 before going back on the road to play at Georgia on March 29 and at Tennessee on March 31.
The final home weekend of the regular season will be April 5 and 7 where South Carolina will host Kentucky and Vanderbilt before the regular season finale at Florida on April 14. From there, the team will head to Baton Rouge, La., for the SEC Tournament that will run April 15-21.
South Carolina went 22-7 during the 2023 dual season and ended the season in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament, the furthest that the team had advanced since 1989. They finished with a final ranking of No. 8 in the country.
