Ford Repeats as SEC Freshman of the Week
COLUMBIA, S.C. (Jan. 23, 2024) – Two weeks in and two SEC weekly honors for South Carolina Track & Field freshman, JaMeesia Ford. For the second consecutive week, Ford was named SEC Women’s Freshman of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon.
Ford continues to shine in her first collegiate season, laying claim to yet another world lead over the weekend. Ford made her collegiate 400m debut on Saturday at the TRACK @ New Balance Collegiate Showdown in Boston, winning with a time of 51.60. Ford’s time sits first among the World Rankings, while also edging out Georgia’s Aaliyah Butler (51.93) for the top time in the NCAA standings.
Ford and the rest of the Gamecocks will be back in action this weekend when they travel to Fayetteville, Ark. to take part in a loaded meet at the Razorback Invitational. Competition at the Randal Tyson Track Center will begin on Friday and will conclude Saturday evening.
