Ford Secures Third SEC Weekly Honor of the Campaign

COLUMBIA, S.C. (Jan. 30, 2024) – South Carolina Track & Field freshman standout JaMeesia Ford continues to rack up the hardware after earning her third SEC Women’s Freshman of the Week honor. The recognition was announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon.

Just one week after posting a 400m time of 51.60 to lead the world standings at the time, Ford clocked a world leading time in her collegiate 200m debut at the Razorback Invitational on Friday evening. Ford clocked a time of 22.58 to capture the 200m title in Arkansas, taking over the world leading time and the top time in the NCAA. Ford then ran the anchor leg in the women’s 4x400m relay on Saturday afternoon, clocking a 400m split of 50.62 to aid the Gamecocks in finishing runner-up in the event. Ford helped Carolina post the second fastest 4x400m relay time this season in the NCAA and also broke a 21-year-old program record set in 2003 of 3:28.25.

South Carolina will be back in action this weekend when the Gamecocks play host to the South Carolina Invite. The South Carolina Invite will be a two-day meet beginning on Friday, Feb. 2 at the Carolina Indoor Track & Field Complex.
