Women’s Tennis Welcomes Pair of Teams for Doubleheader
Columbia, S.C. – No. 18 South Carolina women’s tennis will host No. 61 Charlotte and No. 67 Charleston Southern on Sunday with matches at 10:30 a.m., 2:30 p.m., and 6:00 p.m. The 49ers will take on Buccaneers first with the Gamecocks then facing Charlotte and Charleston Southern in the final two matches of the day.
All matches will be played at the Carolina Tennis Center located at 1318 Heyward St. Fan parking is available at any City of Columbia metered spots located around the athletics village. Parking is also available at the Carolina Indoor Tennis Center located at 523 Superior St.
Admission to all matches is free and open to the public. Gates will open one hour prior to the first match of the day.

Gamecock Notables
- South Carolina is 6-1 on the season and currently sits at No. 18 in the ITA team rankings, the team’s highest ranking since 2021. The team has a ranked win over then-No. 23 Gerogia Tech and their only loss of the season came at the hands of then-No 4 Georgia.
- South Carolina is the only team in the nation to have two players ranked inside the ITA singles top-7 with Sarah Hamner ranked No. 6 and Ayana Akli ranked No. 7. Graduate Shahar Biran also represents the team in the singles rankings, coming in at No. 119.
- In the doubles rankings, Akli is ranked at No. 45 with Hamner and at No. 49 with Olympe Lancelot. Akli and have handled duties at the top of the doubles lineup this season where they are 4-2 and 7-2 overall. The duo has a dominant 6-1 with over then-No. 15 Guillermina Grant and Mai Nirundorn of Georgia on their resume.
- In singles, Akli has also handled business from the No. 1 position where she is 4-2. The graduate is 17-6 overall and has been ranked as high as No. 3 in the country this season.
- Hamner has been a consistent No. 2 for the season with a perfect 5-0 record in dual singles play. She is 18-5 overall this season and 12-4 against ranked opponents.
- Also with an impressive singles record this season is junior Misa Malkin who is 5-1 from the No. 4 position.
Scouting the 49ers
- Charlotte has a 7-4 record this season with sweeps over Queens, Gardner-Webb, Boston University, and Western Carolina. The team also has a victory over Oregon from the second round of the ITA Kickoff Weekend.
- Lucia Quiterio has primarily played at the top of the singles lineup , going 6-2. She is 11-6 overall and enters the weekend on a five-match win streak.
- Lucie Petruzelova has also spent time at the top of the lineup where she is 3-0. She is also 3-1 from the No. 2 position.
- Overall this season the 49ers are 35-17 in dual match singles.
Scouting the Buccaneers
- Charleston Southern is 4-1 this season and is coming off of a narrow 3-4 loss to North Florida.
- The team is led by Jessica Braun who is 3-1 from the top of the lineup. She is followed in the lineup by Amila Jusufbegovic who is 3-1 from the No. 2 position.
- Overall the team is 22-8 in dual singles matches this season.
Series History vs. Charlotte
- South Carolina is a perfect 5-0 all time against the 49ers. The two teams first faced in 1986 with the Gamecocks winning 9-0.
- In all five matches between the two programs, Charlotte has never scored a point against South Carolina.
- Charlotte and South Carolina last faced in 2017 with the Gamecocks winning 4-0
Series History vs. Charleston Southern
- South Carolina is a perfect 5-0 all time against the Buccaneers. The two teams first faced in 1998 with the Gamecocks winning 8-1.
- CSU and South Carolina last faced in 2022 with South Carolina winning 6-1.
