Baseball Hosts Pair of Games in the Midweek

FOR STARTERS

  • South Carolina starts a five-game homestand with a pair of midweek games.
  • The Gamecocks host The Citadel on Tuesday, March 5 at 6:30 p.m. and face Davidson on Wednesday, March 6 at 3 p.m.
  • This is the final scheduled double midweek of the season.
  • Both games will be streamed on SEC Network Plus.
  • Both games also will be on the Gamecock Sports Network presented by Learfield with Derek Scott, Cade Crenshaw and Stuart Lake on the call.

BUSINESS LOTS DURING AFTERNOON GAMES Business lot parking passes will be honored in Lot 1 ONLY for the March 6 afternoon baseball games based on availability. The businesses at 405 (Lot 9) and 401 (Lot 10) Huger Street request that you begin parking at 5:30 p.m. on weekdays. Other business lots open at 5 p.m. on weekdays. Parking is allowed in Lot 8 (the Cregger lot) on the Williams St. side for the afternoon early games.

SCOUTING THE CITADEL

  • The Citadel has won nine of its first 11 games after taking 2-of-3 games from Harvard this past weekend.
  • Garrett Fulmer drove in three runs in Sunday’s 6-3 win over the Crimson.
  • Thomas Rollauer leads The Citadel with a .444 batting average while Travis Lott has 15 RBI and 12 walks.
  • Sawyer Reeves, brother of Gamecock catcher Dalton Reeves, is hitting .386 with two home runs and 13 RBI. Citadel pitcher Matthew Polk also is the brother of Gamecock pitcher Michael Polk.
  • Tony Skole is in his seventh season at The Citadel. Skole is a 1991 graduate of The Citadel and was on the 2019 USA Baseball Collegiate National Team coaching staff with Mark Kingston.
  • Former Gamecock great Blake Cooper is The Citadel’s pitching coach. Cooper was a second team All-American in helping the Gamecocks to a 2010 national championship.

SCOUTING DAVIDSON

  • Davidson is 4-7 heading into Wednesday’s game.
  • The Wildcats dropped 2-of-3 games at home to Penn State this past weekend. In the 14-2 win in game one of the series, Wilson Perkins struck out eight in six innings and Jacob Friend drove in a pair while scoring two runs.
  • Eli Putnam is hitting .378 with three home runs and 10 RBI while Michael O’Shaughnessy has 15 RBI.
  • Rucker Taylor is in his sixth season at Davidson. He was the Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year in 2022.

SERIES VS. OPPONENTS

  • Carolina leads the all-time series with The Citadel 141-50-1, including 81-18-1 in Columbia.
  • The Gamecocks swept the two-game set with the Bulldogs last season, winning 8-1 in Columbia and 13-2 in Charleston.
  • Carolina has a 49-22-1 series advantage on Davidson.
  • The last meeting between the two schools was in 2021, which was a 9-4 win for the Wildcats.

BREW CREW

  • Dylan Brewer has had a hot start at the plate, going 17-for-34 (.500) with 11 runs scored, a double, a triple, 11 RBI, 11 walks and no strikeouts in the first 11 games.
  • Brewer was 3-for-7 with a run scored, an RBI and three walks in the two games against Clemson on March 2-3.
  • Brewer currently is second in the SEC in batting average, tied for seventh in hits and second in on-base percentage (.617).

GAMECOCKS 2ND IN THE COUNTRY IN WALKS

  • Carolina has drawn 97 walks in 11 games this season, good for second in the nation and in the SEC behind Ole Miss.
  • Parker Noland leads the team with 12 walks, which is tied for fourth in the SEC.
  • Carolina’s 8.81 walks per game would lead the nation.

GAMECOCKS ARMS IMPRESS IN FIRST 11

  • The South Carolina pitching staff has a 2.66 ERA after 11 games, good for fourth in the SEC.
  • The Gamecocks have struck out 108 batters in 94.2 innings, led by Roman Kimball’s 14 punchouts.
  • The Gamecock opponents are hitting just .180, led by Dylan Eskew’s .122 opponent’s batting average, which is tied for fourth in the league.
  • Ty Good has pitched 6.2 scoreless innings this season, including a perfect eighth with two strikeouts March 3 at Clemson.
  • Eli Jones has a 2.03 ERA with 12 strikeouts in 13.1 innings pitched.
