Baseball Defeats Davidson in Rain-Shortened Midweek

COLUMBIA  – The University of South Carolina baseball team allowed just two hits and struck out 11 Davidson batters in six innings of work in a 4-1, rain-shortened win on Wednesday afternoon at Founders Park.

After Davidson scored a run in the top of the first, Carolina answered with a pair of runs started by a bunt single from Dylan Brewer. Kennedy Jones forced Brewer in with a bases-loaded walk and Tyler Causey scored Talmadge LeCroy on an RBI groundout.

The Gamecocks added two more runs in the second as LeCroy’s RBI single was followed by an attempted double steal that ended up scoring Brewer from third.

Tyler Pitzer earned the win on the mound, striking out five in 3.1 innings, allowing two hits and a walk with no runs. Ty Good picked up the save, his first, with four strikeouts in 1.2 innings.

Brewer had two hits for the Gamecocks in the win.

The game was called with no one out in the top of the seventh due to heavy rain and lightning that fell in Columbia.
