Baseball Drops Saturday Contest at Ole Miss

OXFORD  – The University of South Carolina baseball team dropped the middle game of a three-game set at Ole Miss, 12-3, on Saturday afternoon (March 16) at Swayze Field.

The Rebels went up 2-0 after three on a Jackson Ross RBI single in the first and Andrew Fischer’s solo home run in the third. The Gamecocks chipped away with an Ethan Petry home run in the fourth. Then, Kennedy Jones hit a laser two-run home run to right to give the Gamecocks a 3-2 lead. Ole Miss answered with back-to-back solo home runs by Ethan Groff and Fischer to lead 4-3. The game remained there until Ole Miss put up eight runs in the eighth, including Fischer’s third home run of the day.

Jones was 3-for-4 on the day with two RBI while Parker Noland had a pair of hits. Dylan Eskew took the loss, striking out three and allowing six hits and four runs in 4.1 innings. Ty Good was great out of the bullpen, striking out five and allowing just one hit in 2.1 scoreless frames.

POSTGAME NOTES

  • Jake McCoy made his first appearance of his Gamecock career in the eighth inning. He struck out a pair.
  • Petry now has 30 career home runs as a Gamecock.
  • Good lowered his ERA to 0.66.
