Gamecocks Open Home Outdoor Season with Weems Baskin Invitational

COLUMBIA, S.C. (March 21, 2024) – South Carolina Track & Field will play host to its first of three outdoor home meets, beginning with the Weems Baskin Invitational this weekend at the Sheila and Morris Cregger Track. The meet will be the only two-day home meet of the outdoor season and will begin on Friday and conclude Saturday afternoon.

Know Before You Go
Sheila and Morris Cregger Track does have a CLEAR BAG POLICY that is in effect. Learn everything you need to know about the Clear Bag Policy by clicking here. There is also a WATER BOTTLE POLICY for all patrons and that is: one clear, plastic disposable water bottle is permitted. No hard, non-clear refillable bottles are allowed inside the facility.

Parking
Parking for the 2024 South Carolina Track & Field season will vary on a meet-by-meet basis. For the Weems Baskin Invitational, parking will differ each day. Friday’s parking will be the Key Road Shuttle Lot which can be found here and the metered parking located around Cregger Track. For a full map for Friday’s parking, click here. Saturday, fans will have access to the Key Road Shuttle Lot, the metered parking around the Cregger Track and the Athletics Village Parking Garage which can be accessed for $10 per car. Meet Information
The 2024 Weems Baskin Invitational features 24 total teams, including the likes of: Appalachian State, Charlotte, Coastal Carolina and Virginia Tech. The two-day meet will begin on Friday with five different field events starting at noon. The first track event on Friday will be the women’s 800m invite at 4 p.m. Saturday will begin at 10 a.m. with three different field events, while the first event on the oval will be the women’s 4x100m relay at 11 a.m. The meet schedule is subject to change. There is expected weather in the area this weekend, so follow @GamecockTrack on X for any updates regarding timing of events.

Success at the Beach
South Carolina finished runner-up in both the men and women’s standings at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational last weekend in Myrtle Beach, S.C. During the duration of the meet, the Gamecocks were successful in winning 15 total events, including 12 on the final day. South Carolina laid claim to the title in all four relay events that they competed in as well. Following the first outdoor meet, the Gamecocks have 17 current East Region qualifiers, led by Channing Ferguson who ranks first in the region in the long jump (7.77m) and Zaya Akins who sits third in the region in the 200m dash following a time of 23.15 (2.8).
