Baseball Falls to No. 18 Alabama
TUSCALOOSA – The University of South Carolina baseball team gave up two runs in the seventh and one in the eighth in a 4-3 loss to Alabama Thursday night (March 28) at Sewell-Thomas Stadium.
Carolina jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Parker Noland doubled and scored on a Kennedy Jones RBI groundout. Talmadge LeCroy then doubled in Ethan Petry for the two-run lead.
Alabama scored a run in the fifth, but Carolina answered in the seventh on Gavin Casas’ fourth home run of the season. The Crimson Tide answered with two runs in the seventh on Mac Guscette’s RBI groundout and TJ McCants’ RBI double.
The winning run scored in the eighth on a wild pitch. Garrett Gainey was tagged with the loss, allowing a run with four hits and two strikeouts in 1.1 innings. Eli Jones struck out five in six innings of work, allowing two runs and six hits with a walk.
Casas had three hits on the night while Noland had a pair of doubles.
POSTGAME NOTES
- Petry also has reached base in the last 36 games dating back to last season.
- Casas now has 23 home runs as a Gamecock.
- Eli Jones has pitched into the seventh in his last two appearances.
