Vawter Named SEC Pitcher of the Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – South Carolina softball pitcher Alana Vawter was named the SEC Pitcher of the Week, as announced by the conference Tuesday (April 2).

The award is Vawter’s first in the SEC and the fourth Pitcher of the Week award of her career.

The fifth-year right-hander began the weekend by throwing a nine-inning complete game, leading the 22nd ranked Gamecocks to a 2-0 victory at Ole Miss. She didn’t walk a batter while scatted five hits and striking out six. She threw 94 pitches and allowed only one runner into scoring position.

In Carolina’s 8-3 win on Saturday, Vawter came on in the seventh to shut down the Ole Miss offense and secure the victory. In an inning of work she didn’t allow a run or a hit.

In the series finale, Vawter pitched five innings of scoreless relief to earn her 10th win of the season. In the 4-0 win, she struck out five while scattering four hits.

She becomes the first Gamecock pitcher to earn SEC Player of the Week honors since Kelsey Oh in 2020.

Next up for South Carolina, it begins a homestand when it hosts Winthrop Wednesday at 6 p.m.
