COLUMBIA, S.C. – The No. 22 South Carolina softball team (27-11, 3-7) dropped its Saturday matinee (April 6) game to No. 16 Mississippi State (28-9, 8-6) 4-0.

The Gamecocks were limited to a pair of singles on the day. Giulia Desiderio led off the third with an infield single and Jen Cummings led off the fourth with a single off the right field wall.

In the circle, Sage Mardjetko (6-5) struck out three while allowing four runs on four hits in 3 1-3 innings. Jori Heard came on for the final 3 2-3, allowing only one hit and striking out two.

The Bulldogs scored a run in the first, two more in the second, and another in the fourth. The Carolina pitchers held MSU, which is second in the SEC in team batting average, to five hits on the day, only one of which was for extra bases.

The series finale is tomorrow at noon. The first 100 fans receive an ice cream sandwich and the team will be signing postgame autographs on the field.
