Baseball Picks Up Sunday Win over Texas A&M

COLUMBIA  – Matthew Becker struck out eight in four innings and Ethan Petry and Gavin Casas had three hits apiece in the University of South Carolina baseball team’s 6-5 win over No. 3 Texas A&M Sunday afternoon (April 7) at Founders Park. The Gamecocks have now won the final game of an SEC series for the fourth week in a row.

Becker allowed five hits and a run with no walks in his four-inning start. Chris Veach earned the win, allowing a hit with a strikeout and two walks in two innings. Garrett Gainey picked up his fifth save, striking out three and allowing four hits and two runs in three innings.

Carolina scored a pair in the first on Petry’s 13th home run of the year. Kennedy Jones then belted a solo home run down the line in left. Texas A&M answered with a run in the fourth, but the Gamecock put up a two-spot in the bottom of that frame.

Texas A&M made it close with two runs in the sixth and two in the eighth. Dalton Reeves’ sacrifice fly in the seventh accounted for the final run for Carolina.

Petry was 3-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored. Casas had three hits while Parker Noland was 2-for-3 with a run scored. Jones had two RBI in the win.
