Gamecocks to Compete in Tom Jones Memorial Invitational

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (April 11, 2024) – South Carolina Track & Field will be making the trek to Gainesville for the second time this season as the Gamecocks compete in the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational beginning tomorrow at noon.

Meet Information
The Tom Jones Invitational will be a two-day meet and will feature some of the best teams in action. Friday’s competition for the Gamecocks will begin at noon with the men’s hammer, followed by the first running event at 12:20 p.m. in the men’s open 200m sprint. Friday will be a full day of competition for Carolina, competing from noon to 9 p.m. with the men’s 5K race concluding the opening day. Saturday will start a little earlier for Carolina with the women’s pole vault kicking things off at 10 a.m. The first track event on Friday will be the men’s 110-meter hurdle prelims at 12:30 p.m. As always, the 4x400m relays will conclude the event with the women running at 6:10 and the men running at 6:40 p.m.

Slaying the Swamp
The Gamecocks are headed down to Gainesville for the second of three times this season. Florida will play host to the 2024 SEC Outdoor Championship next month. The last time out in Gainesville, South Carolina won five total events and registered 17 NCAA East Regional qualifying marks. The Gamecocks will look to record more wins this weekend and improve on their marks as we are now midway through the outdoor season.

Where they Rank
Heading into the midway point, the Gamecocks are positioned nicely inside the Top 25 of the team rankings. The women slide in at No. 3 overall in the rankings and the men are positioned No. 20 overall. The women have four event groups ranked inside the Top 25: 200m (1st), 400m (2nd), 100m (8th) and 800m (22nd). As for the men, they have two sprints groups ranked inside the Top 25: 100m (5th) and the 200m (13th).
