No. 2 Gamecocks Open Play at SECs Friday in Tampa

South Carolina the top overall seed this week as team seeks second SEC Championship

BELLEAIR, Fla. – No. 2 South Carolina is set to begin postseason play at the 2024 SEC Women’s Golf Championship on Friday. This year’s conference tournament will be played Pelican Golf Club outside of Tampa for the first time. The past 10 SEC Championships have been played at Greystone in Birmingham.

Admission is free each day for patrons.

For the seventh consecutive season, the SEC Championship will consist of 54 holes of stroke play starting tomorrow with an individual champion crowned on Sunday. The top eight teams from stroke play will advance to match play. The quarterfinals and semifinals will be conducted on Monday with the title bout set for Tuesday. SEC Network+ will provide coverage Monday and Tuesday’s title match will be live on SEC Network.

Since switching to the new match play format in 2018, the Gamecocks have advanced each season (five times as 2020 was cancelled due to COVID) with two title match appearances (2018, 2019) and a semifinal appearance (2023).

The Gamecocks have been one of the best teams in the country again this season with four tournament wins (T-2nd most in program history).

It’s another loaded field this season with nine teams ranked in the top-25 of the latest Clippd rankings.

All-Americans Louise Rydqvist and Hannah Darling lead the team this week fresh off made cuts at the Augusta National Women’s Amateur. Both are ranked in the top-25 again this season and slotted top-50 in the latest World Golf Amateur Rankings (WAGR). The course host The ANNIKA on the LPGA Tour in which Rydqvist received a sponsor exemption this season and made the cut back in November.

They are joined in the lineup this week by sophomore Mia Sandtorv Lussnad and a pair of French freshmen in Vairana Heck and Maylis Lamoure. Senior Sophia Burnett also made the trip and will serve as the team’s substitute.

The Gamecocks will be paired with No. 4 LSU and No. 9 Arkansas for first round action Monday morning. Lamoure will be the first player off at 8 a.m. (ET) from hole one. Live scoring will be available via Golfstat the duration of the event.
