No. 23 Gamecocks Drop Series Finale to No. 17 Razorbacks
COLUMBIA, S.C. – The No. 23 South Carolina softball team (29-15, 5-10) dropped its series finale Sunday (April 14) to No. 17 Arkansas (30-11, 9-6) 3-0.
Jen Cummings, Bre Warren, and Giulia Desiderio each had a hit for Carolina.
Arkansas scored their runs on a solo home run in the second and a two-run triple in the sixth with two outs.
Denver Bryant was hit by a pitch in the bottom of the first, but she would be the only Carolina runner to reach until Warren singled with one out in the fifth. One out later in the fifth, Desiderio singled to put two runners on, but the next out was recorded to end the inning.
South Carolina brought the tying run to the plate in the seventh as Cummings singled and Warren was hit by a pitch with one out. A pair of fly outs ended the rally and the game.
Alana Vawter (12-8) took the loss, striking out two while allowing one run on three hits in five innings of work. Sage Mardjetko came on for the final two innings, surrendering two runs on two hits and striking out two.
The Gamecocks hit the road for an SEC series at No. 9 Florida April 19-21.
