Four Gamecock Home Runs Take Down No. 10 Gators

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Behind a four-home run day from the offense, the South Carolina softball team (30-16, 6-11) took down No. 10 Florida (36-11, 11-6) 6-2 Saturday afternoon (April 20).

All seven runs came on home runs for Carolina. Denver Bryant led the offense with two hits on the day including a home run. Zoe Laneaux and Aniyah Black each drove in two runs.

Alana Vawter (13-8) threw a complete game, scattering eight hits and striking out a Gator.

Jen Cummings got Carolina started in the second as she hit the second pitch of the inning over the wall in right center for her third homer of the year.

In the fourth, Kianna Jones led off the inning with a walk, and one out later, Black hit her second home run of the weekend down the left field line. The round-tripper was her fifth of the season.

Florida got a run back in the bottom of the fourth on a solo home run of its own, but the Gamecocks answered in the fifth. With one out, Riley Blampied singled. Two pitches later Laneaux homered to left center, her second of the year.

South Carolina put an exclamation point on the day when Bryant connected on her first home run of the season to lead off the seventh. The Gamecocks capped off its day with a double play to end the game. Jones made a catch at the wall and threw back in to Cummings at first. The runner was initially ruled safe, but after a review, the call was changed and runner at first ruled out and the game over.
