Alana Vawter Named Second Team All-SEC

BRIMINGHAM, Ala. – South Carolina softball pitcher Alana Vawter was named to the All-SEC Second Team, as announced by the conference Friday, May 10.

The All-SEC Teams consist of 21 student-athletes on the First Team, 21 student-athletes on the Second Team, and a nine-member All-Defensive Team. No ties were broken.

It’s the second straight season the Gamecocks have had a pitcher named All-SEC, as Donnie Gobourne earned first team honors a season ago.

In conference play, Vawter compiled a 5-9 record with a save. In 89 1-3 innings, she held an ERA of 2.19 and threw seven complete games. She finished the conference season with 44 strikeouts.

On March 29, Vawter threw a nine-inning complete game shutout in a 2-0 win at Ole Miss. She limited the Rebels to five hits while striking out six and not walking a batter. Her six strikeouts were her second most on the season. She also pitched five innings of relief to help Carolina shutout the Rebels in the finale and earn the series sweep.
