Gamecocks welcome six NCAA Tournament teams from this past season to Colonial Life Arena with Texas featured in that group

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southeastern Conference announced league opponents for the upcoming 2024-25 men’s basketball season on Monday. The Gamecocks, fresh off T-2nd finish in the SEC after going 13-5 this past season, will play home and homes with Florida, Georgia and Mississippi State.

SEC action will start on Saturday, Jan. 4 and will run through Saturday, March 8. Each SEC team plays the other 15 teams at least once during league play. Of the three home and home matchups, Georgia and Florida will serve as permanent opponents both home and away with the third team rotating each season.

The continuation and renewal of historic rivalries was a point of emphasis when creating the schedule as the SEC welcomes Oklahoma and Texas as new members in 2024-25. Additionally, preexisting home-and-away rotations for single-play opponents were preserved.

Of the team’s nine home games, the Gamecocks will welcome in six squads that made the 2024 NCAA Tournament to Colonial Life arena in Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Mississippi State, Texas and Texas A&M. South Carolina has faced Texas just twice in its history with a home and home against the Longhorns in Bill Foster’s first two seasons as head coach. The Gamecocks beat Texas 74-70 on Dec. 23, 1980 at Carolina Coliseum and the Longhorns won the grudge match, 88-71, in Austin on Jan. 23, 1982.

Carolina’s road schedule is highlighted by trips to Kentucky, Tennessee and Oklahoma. The trip to Norman will mark the Gamecocks third all-time and first since Dec. 10, 1992.

The SEC Tournament returns to Nashville, Tenn., as Bridgestone Arena will host the event from March 12-16, 2025.

A record-tying 10 SEC teams received postseason bids. The SEC’s eight NCAA Tournament selections tied its previous best set in 2018. Additionally, two SEC teams competed in the National Invitation Tournament. The SEC has had 35 NCAA Tournament selections over the last five tournaments.

Times, dates and television information will be announced at a later date.
