Alana Vawter Named NFCA All-Region Third Team

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – South Carolina softball pitcher Alana Vawter was named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Southeast Region Third Team Thursday, May 16.

The award honors softball student-athletes from the Association’s 10 regions with first, second and third-team selections. NFCA member head coaches from each respective region nominated student-athletes (eight maximum) and voted for the teams. All awarded student-athletes now become eligible for the 2024 NFCA Division I All-America squads.

Vawter gives the Gamecocks their second All-Region selection in as many years after Donnie Gobourne earned second team honors last year. It’s the fourth All-Region honor of Vawter’s career, having earned first team All-West honors last year and in 2021, and second team honors in 2022.

It’s the second postseason honor for Vawter after being named to the All-SEC Second Team. For the season, she holds a 16-12 record, the most wins by a Gamecock pitcher since 2018. In 171 1-3 innings over 38 appearances, Vawter has a 2.03 ERA while striking out 99 batters and earning a pair of saves. She threw three complete game shutouts, including a nine-inning performance at Ole Miss on March 29.

For the season, she earned six victories over nationally ranked opponents in No. 11 Clemson, No. 10 Florida, No. 16 Mississippi State (twice), No.21 Kentucky, and No. 24 Boston U, while also earning a save against No. 17 Arkansas. Against Clemson on March 20, Vawter pitched a career-high 12 innings to help the Gamecocks take down the Tigers on their home field.
