Baseball Falls to Tennessee in Regular-Season Finale

KNOXVILLE – No. 1 Tennessee completed a sweep of the University of South Carolina baseball team with a 4-1 win over the Gamecocks in the regular season finale Saturday afternoon (May 18) at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.
The game was scoreless until the bottom of the fourth when Kavares Tears doubled to center to score Hunter Ensley. The Vols put up three runs in the fifth on three RBI singles in a five-hit inning.
Carolina put up its run in the eighth as Talmadge LeCroy brought in Parker Noland with a single to center.
Four Gamecock arms toed the rubber as Matthew Becker took the loss, allowing two runs on three hits. Dylan Eskew pitched two scoreless frames while Chris Veach struck out three in the two final innings of play.
LeCroy was 2-for-3 with an RBI to lead the Gamecock offense.
POSTGAME NOTES
- Cole Messina was 6-for-11 on the weekend.
- Veach lowered his ERA to 3.82 and has 43 strikeouts in 33 innings.

Carolina will start postseason play with the 2024 SEC Tournament at the Hoover Met in Hoover, Ala. The Gamecocks will play on Tuesday, May 21. The opponent and game time will be announced late on Saturday night.
