Gamecocks Fall to No. 4 Duke in Winner’s Bracket Game
DURHAM, N.C. – The South Carolina softball team (35-23) fell to host and No. 4 ranked Duke (49-6) 8-0 in the winner’s bracket game of the NCAA Softball Tournament – Durham Regional Saturday afternoon (May 18).
The Gamecocks were set to take on Utah in an elimination game, however due to inclement weather, it has been moved to tomorrow with the game time to be determined.
The Gamecocks were never able to get the offense going against Duke, as they were limited to a pair of hits, coming in the first and sixth innings from Riley Blampied and Karley Shelton. Sage Mardjetko (8-9) suffered the loss, allowing three runs on four hits while striking out five in 3 2-3 innings.
Duke scored a run in the third, two in the fourth, and five in the sixth.
