Baseball Heads to Raleigh Regional for NCAA Tournament Play

INDIANAPOLIS – The University of South Carolina baseball team will open NCAA Tournament play in the Raleigh Regional, facing James Madison on Friday, May 31 at Doak Field at Dail Park on the campus of North Carolina State, it was announced Monday afternoon (May 27).

The Gamecocks are the second seed in the Raleigh Regional and will face the Dukes for the first time since the 2008 Raleigh Regional, which was a 7-5 Carolina win. James Madison comes into the tournament with a 34-23 record and a 17-13 mark in Sun Belt play. The Dukes are led offensively by Fenwick Trimble’s .371 average while Brendan O’Donnell has 16 home runs. On the mound, Donovan Burke has six wins and 61 strikeouts in 84 innings pitched.

North Carolina State will host and face Bryant on Friday. The Wolfpack are the No. 10 overall seed in the tournament. NC State comes into the regional with a 33-20 overall record and an 18-11 ACC mark. Alec Makarewicz leads NC State with a .376 batting average and 19 home runs to go along with 71 RBI. Ryan Marohn is 4-2 with a 3.60 ERA on the mound.

Bryant is 36-19 overall and 17-7 in America East play. They won the America East Conference tournament, defeating UMBC 15-10 in the final. Gavin Noriega is hitting .338 with 18 home runs and Luke Delongchamps is 5-2 on the mound with a 2.76 ERA.

The Raleigh Regional is matched up with the Athens Regional. The winners of the two regionals will meet in next week’s Super Regional round.

The Southeastern Conference received 11 bids to the NCAA Tournament, the most in the league’s history.

Single sessions, if available, will go on sale on Wednesday, May 29th at 10 AM. The price of a single session ticket is $25.00 for the reserved sections or $15.00 in the standing room only areas.
