Veach Inks Free-Agent Deal with the Yankees

NEW YORK – Redshirt junior righthanded pitcher Chris Veach of the University of South Carolina baseball team has signed a free-agent deal with the New York Yankees, the club announced this afternoon (Thursday, July 18).

Veach, a redshirt junior righthanded pitcher from Chapin, S.C., made 26 appearances for the Gamecocks in 2024, tying for 12th in the SEC in that category. He was 5-2 with a 3.63 ERA, three saves, and 54 strikeouts in 44.2 innings pitched. Veach held opponents to a .209 batting average and earned a win in the SEC Tournament over Alabama on May 21, striking out six in 5.2 scoreless innings. He had four strikeouts in 4.2 innings in an NCAA Raleigh Regional win over James Madison on May 31. In his two-year career at Carolina, Veach has seven wins and nine saves while striking out 86.

Veach is the fourth Gamecock this week to be either drafted or signed from the 2024 team. He joins Cole Messina, Eli Jones and Garrett Gainey, all who were drafted on Monday afternoon (July 15).
