Baseball to Play Air Force, College of Charleston This Fall

COLUMBIA – The University of South Carolina baseball team will play two scrimmages against outside competition this fall, it was announced Wednesday afternoon (July 24). The Gamecocks will host Air Force on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 2 p.m. and head to the College of Charleston on Thursday, Nov. 7 at 6 p.m.

The Gamecocks will host the Falcons, who won 27 games last season, were 18-12 in Mountain West play and led by head coach Mike Kazlausky, who is entering his 15th season at the Academy. Carolina Head Coach Paul Mainieri was the head coach at the United States Air Force Academy from 1989-94; and Kazlausky played for Mainieri for three seasons and then was on his coaching staff for two seasons.

Carolina will travel to Patriots Point, home of the College of Charleston Cougars. The Cougars, led by former Carolina head coach Chad Holbrook, went 41-14 overall and 21-5 in Coastal Athletic Association play.

The NCAA started in 2018 to allowed Division I baseball teams to play two fall scrimmages against outside opponents without counting against the spring schedule.

The Air Force game will be free and open to the public. The College of Charleston game will be ticketed. More information on tickets for that game will be announced later in the fall.

The two games are part of Carolina’s fall practice schedule. Full team practice will begin on Monday, Sept. 30.
