Cross Country Lands Top Three Finish at Crimson Classic

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (Oct. 18, 2024) – South Carolina Cross Country made the trek to Tuscaloosa, Ala. and came away with a third-place finish at the Crimson Classic on Saturday morning.

The Gamecocks competed in the 6K (5,926m officially) and were able to secure 114 points, taking down Mississippi State, Tennessee, Georgia and most importantly Clemson to draw even in the Palmetto Series.

As she has done all season, Teresa Cherotich led the way for the Garnet & Black. The Kenya freshman clocked a time of 19:46.7 to finish fifth overall. Cherotich was joined by a duo of freshmen in Mary Frances Iseman and Cate Conklin. Iseman turned in a time of 20:35.2 to finish 23rd overall as the second fastest Gamecock, while Conklin was right behind her in 24th after posting 20:35.3.

Anya Arroyo was the fourth scorer for Carolina, finishing 36th overall and recording 31 points after crossing the line at 20:43.5. The fifth and final scorer for the Gamecocks was sophomore runner Emma Torbert who finished 38th in the overall standings and secured 33 points for the Gamecocks after running 20:44.7.

Alabama captured the team title with 28 points, led by Doris Lemngole who won the individual podium after running 19:04.8. Missouri recorded a runner-up finish with 99 points, followed by the Gamecocks in third.

South Carolina will have a handful of athletes competing tomorrow in the Upstate Invite 5K in Spartanburg, S.C. Following that event, the Gamecocks will then turn their attention to the upcoming SEC Cross Country Championship on Friday, Nov. 1 in College Station, Texas.
