Two Gamecocks Set for ITA Sectionals

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – South Carolina women’s tennis is sending two Gamecocks to the ITA Sectional Championship tournament this weekend from Nov. 7-10 at the University of North Carolina.

No.10 Sarah Hamner and Kaitlyn Carnicella are entered to compete in singles. The two Gamecocks, ranked 27th in the nation, will also pair up for doubles action. On Nov. 7, Carnicella faces Phoebe Peus of Brown at 12:00 p.m. while Hamner, seeded second in this tournament, plays Gabriella Broadfoot from NC State at 1:00 p.m. Later in the day the Gamecock duo, seeded second in the tournament, play Maryland’s Kallista Liu and Danielle Hack  at 3:30 p.m. Complete draws, schedules and results will be posted on the ITA Tournament Page.

Under the new format for NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships, players and doubles teams in the ITA Sectional Championships can qualify right into the NCAA Championships bracket. The six singles finalists in each section (central, east, south, west) will punch their ticket directly into the NCAA Singles Championships, and three doubles teams from each section will join them in the NCAA Doubles Championships.

Carnicella and Hamner return to Chapel Hill for the second time this season as the two competed at the ITA Carolina Regional last month. Carnicella advanced to the semifinals in singles after topping No.41 Emma Jackson of Duke in three sets during the quarterfinals.
