
Track & Field Triumphant in Trio of Events at Carolina Challenge
COLUMBIA, S.C. (Jan. 31, 2025) – South Carolina Track & Field competed in just nine events on Friday at the Carolina Challenge, winning a trio of individual titles.
Jasauna Dennis came away victorious in his second indoor 400 meter race of the season. The Jamaica sophomore clocked a new PR time of 46.65 for the ninth fastest time in program history and the ninth fastest time in the NCAA this season. Nate Figgers was the only other male competing for South Carolina on Friday, jumping a personal best in the long jump at 7.30m (23-11.5) to finish runner-up.
Cheyla Scott picked up the first win of the day for the Gamecock women, doing so in the long jump after she set a new personal best of 6.04m (19-9.75), just missing out on the program Top-10 list. The second and final win for the Gamecock women was delivered by sophomore jumper Madison Childress. Childress claimed the title in the women’s 60m sprint, running a massive personal best in the finals of 7.63 for the win.
The Gamecocks will be back in action tomorrow for the Gamecock Challenge that will feature a loaded field from the Garnet & Black. Doors will open at 9 a.m. for fans with the first event starting at 10 a.m.
