Baseball's Petry Earns a Pair of Preseason Honors

CARY, N.C. — University of South Carolina junior outfielder/infielder Ethan Petry has been named to the Golden Spikes Award Preseason Watch List, USA Baseball announced this afternoon (Friday, Feb. 7). Petry is one of 55 players on the list with the award given to the top player in amateur baseball. Petry also was named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Preseason All-America third team.

This is the second straight year that Petry has been on the Golden Spikes Award Preseason Watch List. He comes into his junior season with a .341 career average to go along with 18 doubles, a triple, 44 home runs (tied for fifth in Carolina history) and 128 RBI in his two years as a Gamecock. Last season, Petry played in 61 games with eight doubles, a triple, 21 home runs and 53 RBI while being named to the NCAA All-Raleigh Regional team and the CSC Academic All-District team.

Petry was named a Second Team Preseason All-American by both Perfect Game and D1 Baseball and was a Preseason All-SEC First Team selection.

Petry joins Texas A&M’s Jace LaViolette, Arkansas’ Wehiwa Aloy, Clemson’s Cam Cannarella, Indiana’s Devin Taylor and Oklahoma State’s Nolan Schubart as players making an appearance on the preseason watch list for the second straight season.

Carolina will open the 2025 season on Friday, Feb. 14 with a 4 p.m. game against Sacred Heart at Founders Park.
