Women’s Tennis Falls to Clemson

CLEMSON, S.C. – The No. 22 South Carolina women’s tennis team fell to Clemson 4-1 on the road on Tuesday evening.

Despite a 6-3 win by Kaitlyn Carnicella and Olympe Lancelot from the No. 2 position, the Gamecocks dropped the doubles point as the Tigers picked up wins on courts 1 and 3. On court 1, Hamner and Buchwald started off slow as the two were down 4-0 to Gaia Parravicini and Amelie Smejkalova. The Gamecocks managed to fight back, winning a couple games before ultimately loosing 6-3. Misa Malkin and Bella Bergkvist Larsson dropped their match 6-1 which provided Clemson with an early lead.

Clemson jumped to a 2-0 lead at the start of singles after Annabella Davis topped Malkin in straight sets of 6-1, 6-2. Hamner responded for the Gamecocks, defending her No. 21 ranking by swiftly topping her opponent 6-2, 6-2. The Tigers advanced to 3-1 over South Carolina after Artemis Aslanisvili defeated Jana Stojanova 6-2, 6-3 from the No. 6 position. The clincher came from court 2 where Sophia Hatton defeated Kaitlyn Carnicella 6-4, 7-5.

The Gamecocks return home on Sat., Feb. 15 for a doubleheader against Wake Forest and Western Carolina at 10:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. respectively.
