Gamecocks Travel to Clemson for Tiger Paw Invite

CLEMSON, S.C. (Feb. 13, 2025) – South Carolina Track & Field is headed to enemy territory this weekend as they compete in the Tiger Paw Invite on Friday and Saturday in Clemson, S.C.

Meet Information
The two-day meet will begin tomorrow with the men’s weight throw at 11 a.m. The first track event for the Gamecocks will be the women’s 60 meter hurdle prelims at noon followed by he men’s 60 meter hurdle prelims at 12:25. Friday’s festivities will conclude at 5:35 p.m. with the men’s 60 meter dash. Saturday will begin at 9 a.m. with women’s shot put and women’s high jump, with the first track event being the women’s 800 meter at noon. As usual, the 4×400 meter relays will close out the competition with the women running at 3 p.m. and the men at 3:40 p.m.

In the Rankings
For the first time in five years, the Gamecock women’s squad is ranked inside the USTFCCCA Top 10 during the indoor season, sliding in at No. 10 in the most recent rankings on Tuesday. The women’s 200m group comes in ranked sixth in the USTFCCCA, while the women’s 3K made the jump from 45th to 18th overall following a slew of Top 10 program marks while competing at the Scarlet & White Invitational in Boston, Mass. The women’s 60m group ranks ninth for the third consecutive week, while the long jump group is ranked 13th overall.

On the men’s side, the Gamecocks 200m event group sits 15th overall, while the men’s mile is the next highest ranked group at 30th. As a team, the Gamecock men rank 32nd overall.

NCAA Positioning
South Carolina has just two more regular season indoor meets before the coveted SEC Indoor Championship takes place on Feb. 27 – March 1 in College Station, Texas. The Gamecocks currently have 11 spots secured at the NCAA Indoor Championship with just three more weekends to grow that number. JaMeesia Ford is the highest ranked athlete, coming in at second in the NCAA in the 400m (51.31), while also ranking 10th in the 200m (23.02). Cheyla Scott ranks sixth overall in the women’s high jump (1.86m), while Dylan Targgart is comfortably in eighth in the shot put with a distance of 19.41m. Zaya Akins is the lone other individual inside the Top 10, ranked 10th overall in the women’s 400m with a time of 52.26.

As for the relays, both DMR groups rank sixth overall after taking out duplicate entries with the men running 9:44.41 and the women clocking a program record 11:02.54. The 4x400m relays rank eighth for the women with a time of 3:32.18 and the men sit 11th overall at 3:07.19.
