Ford Sets World Lead at Tiger Paw Invitational

CLEMSON, S.C. (Feb. 15, 2025) – Another meet, another world-class showing from sophomore sprinter JaMeesia Ford. The North Carolina native highlighted the final day of the Tiger Paw Invitational for the Gamecocks, setting a new world lead in the 200m after tying her own program record of 22.34 for the win. Ford’s time also marked the top time in the NCAA this season and set a new Clemson Indoor Track & Field Complex facility record.

Fellow sophomore sprinter Cynteria James secured a new personal best in the indoor 200m, running 23.42 to finish 14th overall. Sylvia Chelangat secured a new indoor personal best in the 800m, stopping the clock at 2:04.61 for the second fastest 800m time in program history. The final individual highlight for the Gamecock women came from Cheyla Scott who finished runner-up in the high jump, clearing the bar at 1.84m (6-0.25).

The women’s 4x400m relay squad of Zaya Akins, Jayla Jamison, Sylvia Chelangat and JaMeesia Ford notched a new season best time of 3:29.77, ranking seventh in program history. The quartet secured a fourth-place finish after running the fifth fastest 4x400m relay in the NCAA this season.

On the men’s team, Anthony Greenhow and Aidan Hatton highlighted the individual efforts. Greenhow turned in a new season best time of 20.95 in the 200m, while Hatton recorded a new season best in the 800m after crossing the finish line at 1:50.75.

South Carolina will close out the indoor regular season a week from today, playing host to the USC Invite on Saturday, Feb. 22. This will be the final meet before the SEC Indoor Championship that will run from Thursday, Feb. 27 – Saturday, March 1 in College Station, Texas.
