Gamecocks Continue Dominant Start in Garnet & Black Invitational

COLUMBIA, S.C. (Feb. 21, 2025) – The No. 21 South Carolina softball team (12-0) defeated Boston (8-3) in a 9-1 run-rule contest on Friday night to continue its perfect season. It’s also the Gamecocks’ seventh run-rule victory in a row and eighth overall in just 12 games of action.

Nealy Lamb claimed the win and remains perfect on the year, striking out four of her seven batters faced to improve to 4-0. Sam Gress earned the start in the circle for South Carolina, logging three innings of work and allowing just one earned run with three strikeouts.

The Terriers struck first in the third inning off a solo home run from Brooke Deppiesse. However, from that point on, it was all South Carolina.

The Gamecock offense exploded in the bottom of the fourth bringing home five runners. Abigail Knight plated the first runner with a double to even the game at one apiece. Knight advanced to third on the throw and Natalie Heath took advantage of the runner in scoring position, popping up a sacrifice fly to bring Knight home. Ella Chancey tacked on three more runs with a double to left field, clearing the bases and giving the Gamecocks a 5-1 lead.

South Carolina put the game away in the bottom of the fifth, leading off with Knight’s second RBI-double of the game. Quincee Lilio had the team’s second bases-clearing double to walk it off for the Gamecocks for the 9-1 triumph.

South Carolina will continue play in the Garnet and Black Invitational tomorrow, with a doubleheader. The Gamecocks will take on Boston again at 1:00 p.m. and Fordham at 3:30 p.m.
