Baseball Drops Saturday Game vs. Clemson
GREENVILLE – The University of South Carolina baseball team dropped a Saturday afternoon (March 1) decision to Clemson, 5-1, at Fluor Field.
Both teams had chances to score in the first. Dominic Listi led off with a double and error to get him to third for Clemson. After a strikeout, Cam Cannarella flied out to left and Kennedy Jones threw a perfect strike to home to complete the double play. In the bottom of the frame, Nathan Hall double while Dalton Mashore and Ethan Petry walked. A pop out, strikeout and fielder’s choice ended the threat.
The game remained scoreless until the top of the sixth when a Cam Cannarella RBI double and a swinging bunt that let him score from second gave Clemson a 2-0 lead.
Ethan Petry hit his third home run of the season and 47th of his career, a solo shot in the eighth. Clemson scored three runs in the top of the ninth for the 5-1 result.
Jake McCoy had a career high 12 strikeouts in six innings of work. He allowed just three hits with two runs and two walks in his 93-pitch start.
