Pair of Gamecocks Advance to NCAA Championship Finals

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (March 14, 2025) – South Carolina competed in just three semifinal events in the opening day of action at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships. The Gamecocks sent a pair of student-athletes through the semis and into Saturday’s finale at the Virginia Beach Sports Center.

Zaya Akins was the first to advance in her respective event, running 51.71 in the women’s 400 meter sprint. Akins finished third in the opening heat and sixth overall in the event, securing her place into the finale. The sophomore sprinter will look for her first individual Indoor All-American honor tomorrow at 3:20 p.m.

JaMeesia Ford did what she does best, advancing to yet another national championship final. The South Carolina sophomore clocked 22.55 in the 200m semifinals to win her heat and finish second overall. Ford will look to defend her indoor 200m title tomorrow at 3:50 p.m.

Fellow 200m teammate Jayla Jamison ran 23.25 in the semifinal round and finished 13th overall. Following her efforts, Jamison was named to the Second Team Indoor All-American squad for the third time in her career, earning Second Team in both the 60m and the 200m in 2023. With her All-American nod, Jamison has now been tabbed an indoor All-American for the third consecutive season, earning First Team All-American in 2024 for her part in the 4x400m relay national champion squad. Jamison will be back in action tomorrow in the women’s 4x400m relay, looking to defend her national title at 4:20 p.m.

Anthony Greenhow was the lone Gamecock male to compete on Friday, doing so in the 200m semifinals. The veteran sprinter crossed the line in 21.07 to finish 14th overall, earning Second Team All-American honors. This is the second consecutive year that Greenhow has taken home indoor All-American recognition in the 200m sprint, earning First Team nods in 2024.

South Carolina will officially conclude the 2025 indoor season tomorrow with day two of the NCAA Indoor Championship. The Gamecocks will compete in a total of five events beginning with the women’s high jump at noon. The men’s team will feature both CJ Licata and Dylan Targgart in the shot put at 5 p.m.
