SCOUTING COLLEGE OF CHARLESTON

  • The Cougars won a rain-shortened series with Dartmouth this past weekend, winning on Friday (2-1) and Saturday (7-3) before being rained out on Sunday.
  • Landon Penfield had three hits in Saturday’s win. Penfield is hitting .311 with four doubles for CofC.
  • Dariyan Pendergrass leads the Cougars with a .449 batting average while Avery Neaves had five doubles and five home runs.
  • On the mound, Jake Brink is 2-1 with a 3.54 ERA and 24 strikeouts.
  • Chad Holbrook is in his eighth season at Charleston. He was the CAA Coach of the Year in 2022 and 2024.
  • Former Gamecock pitcher Sawyer Bridges is an assistant coach for the Cougars.

SERIES VS. COLLEGE OF CHARLESTON

  • Carolina holds a 50-9 series advantage on the College of Charleston heading into Tuesday’s game.
  • The Cougars won the last meeting between the two teams, 8-0, on May 9, 2018. That game also was played at Segra Park.
  • Carolina’s last win over the Cougars was an 8-3 win on Feb. 14, 2015. That was a three-game series where Carolina won two of those three games.

BATS SHINE IN OKLAHOMA SERIES

  • Carolina hit .336 in the three games against Oklahoma and are only behind Arkansas in conference batting average after one weekend.
  • The Gamecocks had 14 hits in Saturday’s 11-6 win over Oklahoma. Kennedy Jones had three of those hits, including a monster home run.
  • Henry Kaczmar led the team with six hits on the weekend. He moved his batting average to .258 on the year.
  • Jordan Carrion and Nathan Hall each had hits in all three games. Carrion is now hitting .359 this season with nine RBI. Hall leads the team and is eighth in the SEC with a .410 batting average and has a current 11-game hitting streak.

PITCHING STANDS OUT IN OPENING STRETCH

  • The South Carolina pitching staff holds a 3.47 ERA with 238 strikeouts in 184 innings pitched after 21 games this season.
  • Ten different Gamecocks have a win on the mound while Carolina has six saves in 21 games in 2025.
  • Jake McCoy struck out 12 batters in six innings of work against Clemson on March 1. McCoy was named the Tom Price Award winner, handed out to the MVP of the Clemson series.
  • Dylan Eskew allowed just one run on three hits in six innings on Sunday against the Tigers. Eskew now has a 1.69 ERA with 19 strikeouts in 16 innings pitched.
  • Brandon Stone came in relief on Friday against Morehead State and struck out nine in a season best 5.2 innings pitched.
  • Jarvis Evans threw a team-best seven innings, striking out six batters in a 9-1 win over The Citadel.
  • Tyler Pitzer did not allow a hit in four innings of relief to earn the save against Oklahoma on March 15.

SCOBEY LOOKING LIKE A VET

  • Freshman third baseman KJ Scobey had three hits in Friday’s game against Oklahoma, then belted a solo home run in Saturday’s 11-6 win over the Sooners.
  • Scobey had four hits and three runs scored in the series against OU.
  • On the season, Scobey is hitting .297 with three home runs, 11 RBI and has committed just two errors at third base.
