Baseball Drops Friday Contest at No. 3 Arkansas

FAYETTEVILLE – The University of South Carolina baseball team fell in its SEC road opener, 12-2, in seven innings to No. 3 Arkansas Friday night (March 21) at Baum-Walker Stadium.

Arkansas plated a run in the second, then four in the third. After a two-run home run from Logan Maxwell in the fourth, Carolina got on the board in the fifth. Dalton Mashore walked with one away. Talmadge LeCroy then doubled to put runners on second and third. Jordan Carrion brought in a run with a groundout to short.

Carolina added a run in the top of the sixth. Nathan Hall singled, moved to second on KJ Scobey’s double down the line in left and scored on a wild pitch.

Arkansas wrapped up the scoring in the seventh by scoring five runs for the seven-inning win.

Brandon Stone was tagged with the loss, allowing five hits and three earned runs with three strikeouts and three walks in three innings. Matthew Becker struck out six in 3.1 innings, allowing five runs with a walk.

POSTGAME NOTES

  • The Gamecocks had six hits on the night.
  • Ethan Petry, Talmadge LeCroy and KJ Scobey all doubled in Friday’s game.
  • Hall extended his hitting streak to 13 games.
